About Us

Kako’s Kids is a Haitian organization that aims to improve the daily lives of disadvantaged children through sport and education.

Jacques Bourjolly, aka Kako, is a famous Haitian comedian, who set up KAKO’S KIDS to help the children of Haiti. In Haiti, violence is a daily occurrence in the life of children. Children face violence within their homes, in schools and in their communities. Haitian children, especially those living in poor neighborhoods, have few opportunities to escape this escalating situation and poverty in their communities.

The KAKO’s KIDS FOUNDATION, the first of its kind in Haiti, provides an alternative to this endless cycle by promoting peace and tolerance through its activities to provide a safe space to children.

Since its foundation in 2010, Kako’s Kids has renovated orphanages, built many sports facilities, and conducted several toys, clothes, books, and back-to-school drives.

Although all Kako’s Kids programs are important, the most important one for many reasons, is the free summer sports camps for street children, held Saturdays and Sundays, for the months of June, July, and August.

This summer camp gives children the opportunity to connect, play sports and build confidence in very challenging circumstances. We call it sport camp, but it goes a little bit deeper than that. We believe that for a child to become the best version of an adult, with finding discipline through sports, they also need other support to have the perfect balance. Therefore, in our summer camp, we also accompany them with other activities that are related to: life skills, mental health, psychosocial and art.

Having worked with the kids of Cite Soleil and being involved in their community, building a relationship with CENTRE HOSPITALIER DE FONTAINE was not only a way for us to connect with extraordinary people who are making a difference in this country, but also to expand our programs through their school, to touch as many youths as possible. With this opportunity, to our already built program, we wish to add few more activities such as class field trips, to give them a chance to discover some hidden treasures of our country (if the country permits at the moment), pet visits to the school, career day where the kids have the opportunity to learn about new careers, cultural day, where they get to not only learn about new cultures, and also taste their food, and listen to their music, cooking and baking classes.

Finally! Every Christmas, KAKO’S KIDS FOUNDATION organizes a Christmas party for kids coming from different places, such as orphanages, other organizations, and even kids from the streets. On that day, which is usually on Christmas day, December 25th, we gather about 200 kids. We start off by saying grace, then usually followed by some music and a show, depending on the artists and performers available on that day, then we have our famous sit-down dinner where they all get to sit and enjoy a hot meal, with drinks and desserts (sometimes we make it a pick nick with open BBQ, burgers and hot dogs) This year, it is our goal to make it up to one thousand (1,000) kids. We believe in: “The more the merrier”

It is our hope that children involved in KAKO’S KIDS FOUNDATION programs, will become ambassadors for change and hope for their community and their country.
